BSFA FINAL: THE MENU

Hawker House

Each of the 16 traders has put forward two hero plates to contend across six categories ranging from best main dish to best snack, with the winners announced on Sat 14 Sep – and YOUR vote will help to decide. 

 

BEST SANDWICH

Indian Street Kitchen – DESI VEG QUESI – “Our take on a Mexican classic, with Amritsari pindi chana (chickpea) and 3 cheeses rocket served in a toasted yeast-free Italian Piadina (Paratha), topped with our home-made organic sauces, crispy onions and fresh rocket.”

Utter Waffle – WANNA PIZZA ME? – “Chorizo, Pepperoni, Mozzarella and Homemade Tomato Passata stuffed Waffle, topped with Grana Padano cheese & your choice of either Basil Mayonnaise or Spicy, chilli-infused Honey.”

MorMor – GRILLED CHICKEN SHAWARMA 

Makasih – MALAYSIAN FRIED CHICKEN ROTI – “Succulent chicken breast coated in crispy tandoori batter, with mango chutney, pickled red cabbage, cucumber, coriander, fresh chilli slices, toasted sesame seeds and a raita dressing all in a warm flaky paratha.”

Shoot The Bull – ENGLISH LAMB FLATBREAD – “36hr slow cooked lamb breast, smoked bacon jam, gem lettuce, minted pea puree and lemon citrus mayonnaise.”

Homeboys – NORTHERN THAI HOT DOG – “Housemade grilled northern Thai sausage, toasted salted shrimp brioche, nam prik pao, preserved egg yolk aioli, pickled daikon and fresh herbs.”

Pabellon – BEEF AREPA WITH SWEET POTATO TEMPURA FRIES – “Hand made grilled cornbread filled with shredded beef slow-cooked in our own sauce, deep-fried sweet plantains, creamy avocado chunks, grated cheddar cheese and homemade garlic sauce. As a side, crispy tempura sweet potatoes whit smoked paprika and sea salt.”

 

BEST MAIN DISH

Turo Turo – FILIPINO SPICED CHICKEN INASAL – “Coconut vinegar and butter glazed boneless chicken, pickled green papaya atchara, garlic fried rice, fish sauce dressing.”

Shoot The Bull – POSH POUTINE – “Flat iron steak, beef-dripping cracked fries, melted cheese curds, braised beef gravy, crispy onions and truffle mayonnaise.”

Dolly – KOREAN SHORT RIB WITH CELERIAC MASH, CRISPY GINGER, GARLIC

The Pink Peppercorn – FISHGUARD CAWL – “Welsh Chorizo, Tenby Mussels, Pan Fried MSC Hake and Burnt Kent Corn. With Marsh Samphire, Pickled Rock Samphire, Salsa Verde, Heritage Tomato and Dusty Knuckle Bread.”

KoKoDoo – RAW BEEF BIBIMBAP – “The unbeatable traditional korean classic bibimbap featuring a steamed bed of rice topped with a diverse colourful assortment of fresh vegetables and a delicately seasoned steak tartare.”

 

BEST VEGETARIAN

The Pink Peppercorn – CARMARTHEN CAWL – “Welsh Shii Take and Chestnut Mushrooms, Miso Aubergine, Garden Pea and Pearl Barley. With Beetroot Borani, Tahini Cream, Croutons, Crispy Onions, Fennel Pollen, Arrowgrass Seeds and Lemon.”

MorMor – BEIRUT BUFFALO WINGS – “A Lebanese-inspired take on cauliflower ‘wings’. Cauliflower florets, marinated in harissa, sumac, garlic and paprika and deep fried until crispy in a gram flour and soy milk batter. Served on a bed of rocket, with a maple, harissa & sumac ‘yoghurt’ sauce.”

Makasih – MALAY VEGAN CURRY – “Tandoori-roasted butternut squash, red onion and garden peas in a fragrant coconut milk based curry served on a bed of coconut infused malaysian blue rice with pickled red cabbage, cucumber, coriander, fresh chilli slices and toasted sesame seeds.”

Turo Turo – CHARRED AUBERGINE AND TOMATO – “Charred Aubergine with a soy garlic glaze, tomato salsa, toasted peanuts, fried tofu.”

Pabellon – VEGAN PABELLON – “Slightly salted white rice, black turtle beans slow-cooked in our own sauces, fried sweet plantains, freshly made Pico de Gallo salad, creamy avocado chunks and handmade grilled cornbread.”

 

BEST SNACK

Homeboys – CRISPY PIG’S HEAD – “Smoked pig’s head croquette, Sri Lankan pineapple chutney, watercress.”

Wanderers Kneaded – DON’T TELL THE COUNTRYMAN – “Pear, gorgonzola dolce topped with honey-roasted walnuts on a white base of organic mozzarella carried by our signature sourdough.”

Wanderers Kneaded – SWEET FIRE – “Figs and Nduja topped an exploded burratina and organic hot honey on a base of our unique sourdough.”

KoKoDoo – FRIED CHICKEN – “Tender fried crispy chicken bites covered in our rich aromatic sweet and mild spicy glaze from our unique homemade recipe inspired by a meticulous infusion of the best Korean flavours.”
