Your Taco Wars Winner

For five years, there was peace in London’s taco scene, but on Tuesday 21 May battle broke out again in Shoreditch.

Eight of London’s most influential restaurants and taquerias competed for a £2,500 prize and the Corona Cup at Dinerama with each trader creating one sensational taco. 300 taco fans came, they ate, and Homies on Donkeys was chosen as the people’s CHAMPION.

Defending champions Breddos (2014) and 2013 victors Luardos were challenged by some powerful contenders: Club Mexicana in collaboration with Neil Rankin of Temper, Santo Remedio who brought the celebrated flavours of their London Bridge restaurant, White Men Can’t Jerk produced a goat taco using meat sourced from award-winning suppliers Cabrito, and Elote offered the flair and flavours of Mexico amongst others.

After a fierce evening of competition, the crowds gathered around and the 2019 winner of the Corona Cup was announced. Homies on Donkeys, the underdogs from Walthamstow took the prize with their Tupork Chakur, a dish set to go down in taco history. Congratulations to Smokey and crew.
